The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GMMAF) departed local shores yesterday for Trinidad and Tobago to participate in the Ruff and Tuff Caribbean Mixed Martial Arts League Fight Night as well as the IMMAF Coach Education and Certification Course slated for tomorrow.
This was confirmed by an official release from the GMMAF. According to the correspondence, a six member team comprising athletes and coaches will participate in the two events which are being hosted in the capital city of Port of Spain.
Guyana’s fight roster comprises Pan American silver medalists Shenese Bobb and Carl Ramsay, as well as debutant Anevia Frank, and Ijaz Cave.
Similarly, the coaching seminar, which is a Level 1/Youth MMA course, will be conducted by Dr. Andrew Moshanov, IMMAF’s Director of Development. The coaching participants are Corwin D’Anjou and Troy Bobb, the head trainer of the Guyana Police Force Mixed Martial Arts Team.
Meanwhile, Fitness Express which is known for its storied association with bodybuilding and powerlifting, has inked a partnership with the local MMA authority.
This was confirmed by proprietor Jamie McDonald during a brief comment. According to McDonald, his enthusiasm and passion for the discipline played a significant role in the realization of the multi-year partnership, noting that he is very optimistic about its growth which also influenced the company’s decision.
According to McDonald, the entity aims to help expand MMA in Guyana by providing local participants, practitioners and combatants with a platform for recognition and the possibility of competing internationally, adding that he hopes other corporate entities follow suit in contributing to the discipline’s local development.
