Alex Algoo continued his remarkable form with the bat in the Commonwealth Cricket League, hitting a half-century but the knock failed to stop New York Thunderbolts from a six-wicket loss to Green Warriors. Winning the toss, Thunderbolts opted to bat first and managed 173 all out in 22.5 overs while Green Warriors reached 175 for four with five overs remaining.
Algoo, a former national U-19 opener, smashed six sixes and eight fours in the top score of 82 from 47 balls. After losing his opening partner, Imran Raja for a two-ball duck, Algoo added 133 runs for the second wicket with Gaurav Jayaswall who made 43 from 40 balls, hitting seven fours and one six.
Extras had the next best tally with 16 while Amit Saxena (15) and Mohsin Khan (10) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
Qasim Shariq was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-33 while Adil Muneer took 3-41. Zaheer Ahmed and Talha Choudhry each picked up a wicket.
Green Warriors openers added 81 for the first wicket with Muhammad Kamram guiding the innings with a top score of 46 from just 27 balls. He stroked seven fours and two sixes before he was caught and bowled by Susheel Krishnaprasad. His opening partner, Ahmed made 27 before he was dismissed in a similar fashion by Algoo.
Choudhry, though, piloted his team over the line with 42 not out from 23 balls, hitting three sixes and four fours and sharing in an unbroken partnership of 73 for the fifth wicket with Iqbal Singh who made 31 not out from 25 balls with six boundaries.
