Newly appointed national U-19 captain, Mavindra Dindyal, is confident his side has the goods to bring the titles home if they execute in the upcoming Regional under-19 50-over and three-day tournaments.
In an exclusive interview with this publication, the top-order batsman firstly spoke of his appointment to lead the squad.
“I think it’s an honour to captain Guyana at any level and I’m thankful for the opportunity and will be looking to make the best use of it,” he declared.
Commenting on the team Dindyal explained, “I think it is a very good team, a well-balanced team and it is just up to us now to execute in the regional tournament.”
A lot of seasoned players are in the mix including fast-bowler, Isai Thorne who represented West Indies under-19 at the last Youth World Cup and batting sensation, Rampertab Ramnauth.
The majority of the squad features players who have come through the ranks in junior tournaments including former captain, Alvin Mohabir, vice-captain, Jonathan Rampersaud, Shamar Yearwood and Zachary Jodah.
With a core of all-rounders in the set-up the captain pointed out that there isn’t any particular strength in the side as all the players are capable of playing their roles.
While preparation has been hampered by rain, Dindyal reasoned that some things can’t be controlled adding that this was one of those things.
“The stuff we can control we’ve been able to manage, things like our fitness, mindset and so we’ve worked hard on,” he said.
