Despite West Indies’ unimaginable losses, former captain Nicholas Pooran achieved his career-best ranking of 19th, entering the top 20 of the International Cricket Council One Day International (ODI) rankings for the first time in his career.
The 27-year-old left-hander registered two of this three centuries in the format during the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers against Nepal and Netherlands. In ODIs, Pooran has played 58 matches at an average of 40 with a best of 118.
Pooran is the second highest ranked player from West Indies with current captain, Shai Hope sitting at 12th on the rankings. Shamarh Brooks (90th) and Brandon King (93rd) are the only other batsmen in the top 100.
Meanwhile in the bowling rankings, Alzarri Joseph leads the way at 15th with Akeal Hosein sitting in 19th position, one behind his highest ranked position. Jason Holder is currently ranked 67th and the only other bowler in the top 100 rankings.
West Indies are currently facing an uphill task of qualifying for the World Cup, taking no points over to the super six stage.
West Indies will take on Scotland today before battling Oman on Wednesday. Their third and final match will be on Friday against Sri Lanka with three wins needed to at least stand a chance of qualifying.
