The residents of Uncle Eddie’s Home are now enjoying newly redecorated living quarters courtesy of a collaboration between Food for the Poor (FTTP) Guyana Inc and Harris Paints Guyana Limited.
According to a press release, the idea to refurbish the southern wing of the elderly home, which was completed last week, was initiated by FTTP which then reached out to Harris Paints for assistance.
The colour scheme chosen includes two shades of grey and white to create a soothing and calming atmosphere for the residents. “Colour is an important part of managing health and well-being… Grey provides a soft backdrop that is peaceful, balanced and reassuring,” the press release said.
Harris Paints donated 30 gallons of paint and other supplies including brushes, trays, and rollers. The renovations were done by members of the Helping Hands Volunteer group and overseen by FTTP’s Senior Manager of Gifts and Kind Jameel Davis.
According to the release, Davis said the coordinators of the programme were very pleased with the performance of the paint. He said it applied well, dried fast and had a low scent which was important for the health of residents. It was also related that the pain covered very well with one coat and the second coat was only applied as it is the recommended standard practice.
Retail Services Manager of Harris Paints Guyana, Nigel Dodson expressed happiness at being on board with FTTP for this project. “It was a delight to be able to partner with this exceptional charity, and give back to those in need, especially the elderly, many of whom have already given so much to their community,” he was quoted as saying.
A spokesperson for Uncle Eddie’s Home noted that since the remodel residents have been gravitating towards the wing and spending more of their time there, the release said.
Uncle Eddie’s Home is an institution that has been in existence for almost 50 years. The facility houses 18 elderly residents and provides general housing and benevolence programmes.
