Dear Editor,
About three months ago, I was asked by Sergeant Tyndall of the Albion Police Station to be part of the Albion Police Station Management Committee that she was in the process of setting up and I immediately agreed, because I wanted to be a part of the change I would like to see in my community. I was invited to the first meeting where elections were held and Professor Daizal Samad was elected Chairman, Mrs. Chu (Secretary), Imtiaz Baccus (yours truly), (Assistant Secretary), Derek Basdeo (Treasurer), Ashwannie Harripersaud (IT Consultant) and five committee members. Since then, the committee has acquired a water pump and twelve chairs for the Albion Police Station. A training session was also held for ranks on the writing of statements, and this session was conducted by committee member Mr. London.
And the main reason I am writing this missive is to let the authorities know what we did yesterday July 1, 2023 in front of the Albion Police Station, to bridge the divide and foster a more cordial relationship between the community and the police .We successfully executed a free breakfast initiative yesterday from around 7.30 am to 10.30 am where we served over 400 people who traverse the main public road during that time. The breakfast consisted of cheese sandwich, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, soft drinks, bottled water and a couple of pieces of pine fruit.
This initiative was the brainchild of Professor Samad and his lovely wife, Ashwannie Harripersaud, with the support of the committee and ranks of the Albion Police Station. The initiative was a great success. It would be remiss of me not to mention the outstanding support we received from Sergeant Tyndall and Inspector Campbell of the Albion Police Station. Once again, thanks everyone. I want to believe that this is a first for Guyana and I do hope Minister Robeson Benn takes note. Great things are happening at Albion. I will update the public as we embark on more initiatives to reduce crime, not only in the community of Albion, but Guyana as a whole and to make our country a better place to live in.
Sincerely,
Imtiaz Baccus
