CAC track and field team arrives in El Salvador

Guyana’s track and field contingent recently arrived in El Salvador on a quest to climb the podium steps at the 24th edition of the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games. The athletics outfit consists of 13 athletes and coaches, Julian Edmonds and Niall Stanton.  National 100m champion and long jump record holder, Emanuel Archibald along with javelin record holder, Leslain Baird will spearhead Guyana’s charge which consists of seven males and six females. The discipline of track and field started yesterday and will conclude on Saturday. Tomorrow will be the first day of action for local athletes. Archibald and Keliza Smith will spring into action in the heats of the blue riband men’s and women’s 100m races. The 100m finals will be contested later in the day. In a recent interview with this publication, Archibald stated that his goal for the Games is to clinch finals berths and chase medals.

“The goal for CAC is to make the finals in both the 100m and the long jump. Being in the finals anything can happen putting me in a position to deal in both events.”
