The Guyanese Mixed Martials Arts (MMA) quartet of Anevia Frank, Ijaz Cave, Shenese Bobb and Carl Ramsay secured respective gold medals in clinical fashion on Saturday evening in the Ruff Tuff Regional League Invitational in Trinidad and Tobago.
All four victories were secured by knockouts against Trinidad and Tobago opposition. Frank, who also competes under the Fight Central banner and was making her debut at this juncture, defeated Kaitlyn Gookool. On the other hand, the experienced Cave bested Denote Edwards.
Similarly, Pan American silver medallists Bobb and Ramsay defeated Shekinah Cedeno and Daniel Lee Sho-Ling respectively.
GMMAF President Gavin Singh said that the four athletes performed exceptionally, affirming that the federation is dedicated to providing a platform for local athletes to gain recognition on regional and international stage.
According to Singh, the acquisition of medals at the regional tournament is a significant victory for Guyana, and the sport of MMA. He further revealed that several members of the team are penciled to compete at an international event on August 7th in Colombia.
Meanwhile, Michael Singh, President of Fight Central, also expressed his happiness in being associated with this effort and pledged to continue supporting the GMMAF and its athletes both locally and internationally.
He further stated that Fight Central is planning to host a sanctioned invitational and professional event in collaboration with the local governing entity, which will aid in the development of the Guyanese MMA.
The Ruff and Tuff Regional MMA League Invitational was coordinated by the Trinidad and Tobago Mixed Martial Arts Federation in collaboration with GMMAF and Fight Central.
