Beacons and Vengy FC recorded hard-fought victories when the Georgetown Football Association Senior Men’s League continued on Sunday evening at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.
Beacons squeaked past Pele 1-0. Veteran forward and former national player Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams once again turned back the proverbial clock, as he recorded the only conversion of the match in the 30th minute to ensure his side’s unbeaten record remained intact.
Similarly, Vengy FC defeated Black Pearl 3-2. Mark Carrega opened the scoring for Black Pearl in the 21st minute. However, Vengy equalised in the form of Johannis Mendonza in the 35th minute. Vengy then took the lead in the 43rd minute via an Eduardo Herrera strike.
The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval. Black Pearl restored parity to proceedings at 2-2 in the 52nd minute, as Joshua Samuels found the back of the net. Nonetheless, Carlos Escobar sealed the result for Vengy as he slammed his effort past the custodian in the 79th minute.
Meanwhile, Riddim Squad and Eastveldt played to a scoreless affair. The tournament continues on Friday at the same venue with a doubleheader.
