Westminster, Diamond, and New Amsterdam Multilateral recorded lopsided victories when the 8th edition of the Digicel Schools Football Championship continued yesterday.
Westminster overcame a two goal deficit to defeat Patentia 5-2 at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora to earn their place in the Region #3 final. Dorwin George bagged a brace in the 28th and 39th minute, whilst Nickille Watson, Ezra Clarke, and Ezekiel Gravesande scored in the 26th, 31st, and 70th minute respectively.
For the loser, Marvin Jeffrey and Cristiano Felix scored in the fourth and ninth minute apiece.
In the East Bank Demerara section which was hosted at the Minister of Education (MOE) ground, Carifesta Avenue, Diamond dismantled Supply 16-0. Simeon James smashed six goals in the third, 13th, 14th, 18th, 38th, and 57th minute, whilst Nicholi Morris tallied a helmet trick in the 10th, 32nd, 43rd, and 48th minute.
Adding braces were Jaden Tasher in the fifth and 35th minute and Bronson Phang in the 31st and 36th minute, with Lorenzo Edmondson and Ronaldo Singh contributing conversions in the 15th and 29th minute apiece.
In Region #6, New Amsterdam Multilateral demolished Port Mourant 13-0 at the Scott’s School ground. Feaad Hussein amassed five goals in the 30th, 35th, 40th, 50th, and 53rd minute, while Kymani Spellen recorded a hat-trick in the first, 13th, and 23rd minute, and Xavier Ferreira tallied a double in the 39th and 52nd minute.
Supporting with goals in the 16th, 43rd, and 46th minute respectively were Darel Mohabir, Tyrel Chung, and Jahmarie Elgin. Meanwhile, in the Region #4 Georgetown division at the MOE ground, West Ruimveldt crushed St. Joseph High 4-0. The quartet of Ozim Lewis, Wayne Solomon, Donovan Welcome, and Elijah Marcus scored in the third, 11th, 13th, and 70th minute respectively. Similarly, Excelsior dismantled Tucville 5-0. Adriano Wharton tallied a double in the 21st and 39th minute, whilst Antonio MacArthur, Dwayne Flatts, and Nivek Boyce found the back of the net in the 15th, 49th, and 65th minute respectively. The winner of the event will receive $1,000,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth place finishers will pocket $500,000, $300,000, and $200,000 respectively towards a school initiative and the corresponding trophies.
On the individual side, prizes will also be awarded to the Highest Goal Scorer, Best Goalkeeper, and Most Valuable Player. Uniforms will be provided to the quarter-finalists in each section. The event is being played under the motto of a ‘Unite, Develop, Excel’.
