The first vocational training course at Lusignan’s Prison’s Vocational Training School was recently carried out by Harris Paints Guyana who worked with the Guyana Prison Service and Str8edge Superior Painting contractors to develop finishing skills for the construction industry.
A release from Harris Paints said that the programme took place under the ‘Fresh Start’ initiative which was conceptualized by the Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn to help rehabilitate offenders and provide skills to improve future employment prospects and help them successfully reintegrate into society on their release.
Participating in the course were 13 inmates along with three officers and Prison Training Instructor Norvan Amsterdam, who were given training on Harris Troweltex Textured Finish application. This included technical information, notes on preparation and hands-on practice applying the texture with a float and trowel.
Retail Services Manager, Nigel Dodson thanked Garfield Manasseh and Mohamed Rahim, the Harris trainers and Vinroy Johnson, of Str8edge Superior Painting, an expert in texture finish application for their participation in leading the event and said it was a great pleasure to be able to contribute to this constructive approach to reducing recidivism and strengthening communities.
