Third term councillor, Alfred Mentore was this morning elected Mayor of  the City of Georgetown.

Mentore’s nomination was made and seconded by fellow APNU members Gregory Fraser and Tahirih Adams respectively.

But what was supposed to be a simple run-of-the-mill process at the Kitty Market conference room, was lengthened by Patricia Chase-Green’s nomination of PPP/C representative  Odayson Audwin Ashby. His nomination was seconded by Dion Younge.

Mentore, however, received the majority of the votes cast. The vote was 19 to 11 in line with party strength.

Meanwhile, newcomer to the local government scene Denise Miller, who was tipped for the post of Deputy Mayor, was also elected to that position.

The PPP/C’s Jainarine Don Singh was also nominated for the post but his bid fell through as APNU used their majority.

The elections were held at the Kitty Market Conference Room as City Hall is undergoing much needed rehabilitation.
