The police are investigating the killing yesterday morning of a 29-year-old labourer of Lot 21 ‘A’ Kilcoy, Chesney, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Leon Comb.
Meanwhile, four persons have been detained for questioning, according to the police.
Investigations so far have revealed that Comb was in his shack when he was killed around 0130 hours yesterday, The man’s relatives who also live in the same yard, said they heard a noise near his shack, after which they saw two men jump over the fence and escape in a westerly direction.
Comb was found by his relatives lying face-down on the ground with lacerations across the throat and face.
Comb lived with his nephew, Michael Ramnarine and Michael’s wife in a shack located on the dam in the area.
Ramnarine’s mother-in-law, Sattie Ramotar, who lives opposite her son-in-law told Stabroek News that on Tuesday she spent most of her time at her son-in-law’s place. She related that in the evening Comb told her daughter that he would sleep in the hammock that is located under a shed near the shack since the place was hot. Around 1 am yesterday, Ramotar related that she was cooking at her place when she heard a noise like an animal hitting the zinc sheeting.
According to the woman, the noise grew louder and she opened her window to see where the noise was coming from but didn’t see anything. When she opened her kitchen door to inquire where the noise was coming from, she saw Ramnarine running after someone in his yard.
Ramotar said she ran out of her home and headed for her bridge when she saw someone trying to escape as Ramnarine ran after him. She disclosed that Ramnarine had a cutlass in his hand but he was unable to catch the person who managed to escape on a bicycle. When she went over to the shack, she saw Comb in a slumped position with blood covering his neck and t-shirt but couldn’t see his injuries. She noted that she heard there was another accomplice but didn’t see him.
Comb was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
