Leslain Baird finished just off the podium in the men’s javelin while the men’s 4x100m relay team crossed the line in fifth last night at the ongoing Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games in El Salvador.
Baird, the national javelin record holder, recorded a best throw of 75.86m at the Jorge ‘El Mágico’ Gonzalez Stadium for the event which was won by Trinidad’s Keshorn Walcott (83.60m).
Meanwhile, the relay quartet of Emanuel Archibald, Noelex Holder, Akeem Stewart and Ezekiel Newton clocked 39.66s in the men’s 4x100m event which was won by sprinters from Trinidad in 38.30s. Also last night, Kenisha Philips placed seventh in the 400m women’s final in 54.06s.
A day earlier, Deshana Skeete ran in fourth in semifinal three of the women’s 200m in 24.13s while Philips placed sixth in semifinal two in 23.98s.
They were the 14th and 12th fastest runners after the semis and failed to clinch berths in yesterday’s final.
Other Guyanese competing on Wednesday were Natrena Hooper who hopped, skipped and jumped to an eighth place finish in the women’s triple jump in 12.61m.
Aliyah Moore, was unfortunately disqualified in the women’s 800m final after finishing third in semifinal two on Tuesday in 2:06.63s.
Track and Field action at the 24th edition of the Games continues today and will be highlighted by the high jump, men’s triple jump and the 4x400m male and female relay events.
