The battles on the courts have intensified with the divisional finals of the Guinness Senior National men’s and women’s Squash championships set for this weekend, at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street.
Defending men’s and women’s champions Shomari Wiltshire and Nicolette Fernandes recorded contrasting wins as they set course to retain their titles.
Wiltshire came from a set down to beat Michael Alphonso 10-12, 11-5, 11-8, and 11-9, while Fernandes had an easy straight sets win against Larissa Wiltshire 11-4, 11-6, and 11-2.
Meanwhile, Taylor Fernandes-Henry proved too strong for Akeila Wiltshire by winning their contest 12-10, 11-5, 4-11, and 11-6, whilst Avery Arjoon stopped Emily Fung-A-Fat 11-2, 11-2, and 11-1, and Mary Fung-A-Fat disposed of Ashley de Groot 11-7, 11-6, and 11-7.
Also, Michelle Low defeated Tian Edwards 11-3, 1-8, 11-5 in the Women’s Veterans section.
In the Men’s Division, Alex Arjoon defeated Jerazeno Bell 11-7, 11-3, and 11-6, whilst Deje Dias overcame Regan Pollard 13-11, 11-8, and 11-2, Jason-Ray Khalil brushed aside Nicholas Verwey 11-6, 11-2, and 11-3, and Samuel Ince-Carvalhal eased past Steven Xavier 11-6, 11-4, and 11-6.
Lee Fung-A-Fat recovered from a set down to beat Richard Rodrigues 10-12, 11-3, 11-2, and 11-3, while Mohryan Baksh bested Jason van Dijk 11-9, 7-11, 11-4, and 11-3, Demetrius De Abreu downed Avinash Oditt 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, and 11-7, and Chad De Abreu defeated Miguel Wong 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, and 11-3.
Continuing in the Men’s section, Josh Verwey defeated Dane Pereira 10-12, 11-5, 11-8, and 11-8 while Ben Mekdeci and Jonathan Antczar battled in five sets, with Antczar winning 7-11, 12-10, 11-9, 10-12, and 11-2. On the other hand, Brian Edwards defeated Lloyd Fung-A-Fat in the Men’s Over 50 pool 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, and 11-5.
