(Trinidad Guardian) The sudden death of PC Shiva Hosein on Thursday has left his colleagues at the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) in Aranguez in shock.
Hosein’s body was discovered at home around 4 pm by his 65-year-old mother who is a domestic worker.
She reported seeing Hosein,,43, around 5.40 am at their Inverness Road, Princes Town home before she left for work.
Upon returning home, she checked his bedroom, which is on the bottom floor of the house, and found Hosein lying on the bed, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the right side of the head, and a firearm allegedly clasped in his right hand.
Hosein was pronounced dead by the District Medical Officer, while his body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, pending autopsy. The T&T Police Service (TTPS) is unclear whether Hosein died by suicide.
Among the evidence collected at the scene was one pistol; one 9 mm spent shell casing; one magazine with 14 rounds of 9 mm ammunition; one magazine with 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition; and one crate with eight rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
Some of Hosein’s colleagues expressed feelings of sadness, loss, and confusion.
One officer said, “He was reserved, easygoing, approachable.”
Another said, “He would smile in the company of his peers. Most persons didn’t expect it.”
