Marian Academy and Kwakwani were crowned the Boy’s U16 and U14 champions respectively when the ExxonMobil National School Basketball Festival continued on Sunday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
In the U16 final, Marian Academy crushed Queen’s College 82-60. Divisional Most Valuable Player (MVP) Jaden Simon accumulated impressive figures of 28 points, 30 rebounds, and six assists, whilst Marion Fiedtkou tallied a game-high 31 points. Adding 15 points and four rebounds was Kaden Khan.
For Queen’s College, Owen Hooper and Francois Mayers registered double-doubles of 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 18 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Ezekiel Griffith supported with 11 points, and nine rebounds.
Similarly, defending Kwakwani crushed Queen’s College 78-29 in the U14 championship match to retain their crown. Tournament MVP and Best scorer Simeon Sinclair recorded 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the rout. He was supported by Tejier Conway who amassed a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while the duo of Trayvon Hopkinson and Lenrick Seaforth added 10 points apiece.
For the loser, Jared Boucher registered 15 points, five rebounds, and as many assists. Meanwhile, in the Boy’s U18 quarterfinal section, President’s College, St. Stanislaus College, Government Technical Institute (GTI), and Kwakwani recorded victories.
President’s College overcame Christianburg/Wismar 41-36. Ezekiel Saul scored 16 points and four rebounds, whilst Judah Ferreira and Aiden Semple added 12 and seven points apiece. For the loser, Teishawn and Keishawn Kitt scored 12 points and 10 points respectively.
Likewise, GTI squeaked past the Bishops’ High 32-28. Peter Langevine recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, whilst Lamar Austin netted 12 points. For the loser, Daniel Bailey recorded a game-high 16 points, and six rebounds.
Similarly, St. Stanislaus College battled past New Amsterdam Multilateral 23-17. Brandon McKoy tallied 13 points, six rebounds, and five in a winning effort. For the Berbicians, Jared Dainty scored seven points and eight rebounds.
On the other hand, Kwakwani crushed Linden Technical Institute (LTI) 46-27. Kelon Phillips amassed 27 points and seven rebounds in the victory, whilst Cordel Hoyte contributed six points and eight rebounds. For LTI, Leancy Baker recorded eight points and 17 rebounds.
