A blistering ton from national youth player, Jonathan Van Lange piloted Demerara to a 202-run win over Essequibo in the ongoing Guyana Cricket Board Under-17 inter-county tournament.
At Everest Cricket Club yesterday, Demerara won the toss and opted to take first strike where they posted 272 for nine in 50 overs. Essequibo could only manage a paltry 70 all out.
Demerara’s innings centered around the Demerara Cricket Club batsman who hammered 17 sixes and four fours on his way to an 85-ball 158.
Van Lange’s teammates were mere spectators in the onslaught with opener Vikash Wilson and Nityanand Mathura hitting cameos of 34 and 25 respectively.
Gulcharan Chulai claimed 3-11 off 10 overs and Royden Morris took 2-17 for Essequibo.
Mathura and Van Lange returned to take two wickets while Stephon Sankar and Shane Prince also bagged two wickets to rout Essequibo. Govin Persaud top scored with 17.
