Dear Editor,
I’ll come straight to the point by exclaiming an unequivocal NO. No way to what happened on Monday 4th July, for over five hours at Butcher s Chill Bar, Restaurant and Grill who recently threw opened his doors for entertainment and is operating at Buddy’s Pool Hall on Sheriff Street. Editor, my fragile nerves cannot take any more of this savagery, both day night, in this area and surely not this new addition. There is absolutely no reason for this to be happening. I am hoping that as I highlight this new negative development that those in authority would stop both their slothful behaviour and selective justice when it comes to certain people, we the residents of Sheriff Street have already been exposed to this brutality by the proprietor years ago, enough is enough.
These people feel that they can do as they please, whenever they please and try to harm people who dare stand up for their right because of the sick system that is being operated here in Guyana. In this society as a whole, we seem to embrace a culture not to stop things or nip it in the bud before it develops into a monster then with brute force and ignorance we try to rid society of the problem in a most savage way or by whatever means whenever it begins to affect us, thereby causing severe pain, confusion and a huge public outcry. Editor, it is high time Guyanese understand that when we do things it must be done in decency and order, there is no excuse for this bombardment on others with loud music whenever we celebrate an occasion or operate a business be it a bar or whatever form of entertainment.
We must have respect not only for ourselves but respect and consideration for others, we all operate in a given space so whatever we do especially when we play our music it must not be done in a selfish manner, our music must be contained to that space, so as not to inflict misery and discomfort on our neighbours and others who have the right to enjoy peace and comfort in theirs. One would have thought when renovation was done on that building recently, it would have been with consideration for the residents living here because the proprietor knew of the great discomfort it caused when it was in operation before. I wish to remind those in authority noise annoys, it is harmful to peoples’ health, it is causing too much misery and discomfort on law-abiding citizens and something must be done about it. It is way past the time a no-nonsense approach be adopted towards noise nuisances – enforce the noise nuisance law NOW.
Sincerely,
Pearl Lewis
