Guyana suffered their fourth loss of the five-round Cricket West Indies Under-19 50-over tournament after losing to Windward Islands by 56 runs yesterday in the final round.
At Park Hill ground, Windwards took first strike and posted 285 for five in their 50 over allotment. With a revised target of 235 in 39 overs due to rain, Guyana managed 179 for seven.
Windwards’ innings centered on Jerel Jeremiah who chalked up a maiden ton at this level. During his unbeaten 110, he struck four sixes and nine fours while soaking up 132 balls.
Joseph was supported by Tarrique Edward who also hit four fours and five sixes on his way to 64 from 71 balls. West Indies under-19 captain, Ackeem Auguste chipped in with 30 from 28 balls before he was bowled by Jeremy Sandhia.
Cameos also came from opener Noel Leo (29), Kevin Gassie (15 not out) and Reshawn Lewis (14). Jonathan Rampersaud picked up 2-49 with his off-spin while Isai Thorne and Sandhia ended with one wicket each. When Guyana batted, Rampersaud top scored with 58 not out while batting at number nine. He struck four sixes and three fours during his 46-ball innings. Earlier, Guyana had built a 59-run partnership for the second wicket between Captain Mavindra Dindyal and Rampertab Ramnauth.
Dindyal stroked four boundaries on his way to 37 from 50 balls while Ramnauth made 33 from 43 balls. His innings was laced with one six and three fours.
Edward returned to take 4-40 in his 10 overs while Kirt Murray supported with 2-44.
