The quick response of the Guyana Fire Service yesterday afternoon managed to contain a fire of unknown origin to the upper flat of Eldorado Trading in Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty, Georgetown, causing millions in damage.
Fire Chief Gregory Wickham told Stabroek News that the Fire Service received the call at 17.33 hours and 5 tenders from the Alberttown, Campbellville, West Ruimveldt, and Central fire stations responded to the fire. When they arrived the two-storey wooden and concrete building was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters, however, managed to contain the fire to the top floor. Two neighbouring buildings on the east and west side suffered minor damage.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
