The Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday awarded a total of $159.075 million in cash and other incentives to members of the Force as part of its annual anniversary Awards Ceremony, with over $19.925 million going to ranks as cash prizes for their outstanding performance.
As part of the Force’s 184th Anniversary celebrations, the Awards Ceremony was held yesterday at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary. Acting Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken told the gathering: “Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, as we have conjointly remained committed to the mandate of the Guyana Police Force. The Guyana Police Force is reforming, as we are rebranding and retooling our policing practices driven by our 2022–2026 Strategic Plan. The plan is consistent with the manifesto promises under the broader national objectives of “less crime, safer communities”.
According to a release from the police, he said, “In light of all our accomplishments, we must pat ourselves on the back. In addition, I would like to urge all members of the Guyana Police Force to strengthen your commitment to the oath you took to ‘serve and protect’ as we remain resolutely on the path of reform. I would like to also remind you that our duty is not just detecting and preventing crime, it is about creating a world with greater understanding and security for the rights of all people”.
The release said that members of the Criminal Investigation Department received a total of $4,265,000. These special awards ranged from the solving of murders, trafficking in persons, finding and seizure of firearms and narcotics.
The release said that Woman Assistant Superintendent, Jillian Moore-Bowen thanked the Acting Commissioner of Police and the Forces Administration for the recognitions of the hard work of the ranks through this year’s awards and incentives.
