President Irfaan Ali yesterday shared 49 land titles to residents of Acme Housing Scheme, Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
A release from the Office of the President said that the distribution exercise is a follow-up from a meeting between the Head of State and residents of the scheme which had indicated their desire of having the co-op scheme regularised.
President Ali explained that following the meeting, the Ministry of Housing and Water was able to identify 150 lots to be regularised; 94 are residential house lots; 24 are lots with commercial activities; 13 were identified as having disputes and 17 have owners who are currently overseas.
Out of the 94 residential lots, 49 titles were handed over yesterday.
The other titles are expected to be handed over soon.
“This is part of Government’s commitment to ensure we improve the standard of living and ensure that there is empowerment at every level”, he said.
The President also noted that contracts have already been awarded for infrastructural works in the community to further improve the residents’ standard of living.
Similar regularising exercises are planned for other areas in Region Three, and other regions across the country.
Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal and other government officials were also at the event.
