Parliament is to sit on Thursday, July 20 and the government is expected to announce who will replace former Minister of Local Government, Nigel Dharamlall as a voting member of the assembly.
President Irfaan Ali announced Dharmalall’s decision to resign from Parliament amid a furore over a rape allegation against him.
With a razor-thin parliamentary majority, the government cannot risk not having a replacement named as it cannot be guaranteed support from the three parties which hold one seat in Parliament.
The PPP recently met to decide on a replacement for Dharamlall.
Thursday’s sitting in the dome of the Arthur Chung Conference Centre will see a packed agenda. The Annual Report of the Natural Resource Fund (NRF) for 2022 and the Annual Report of the Public Accountability and Oversight Committee of the NRF for the year 2022 are to be presented.
Two financial papers are to be considered and the third reading of the Planning and Development Single Window System Bill 2022 is scheduled. Several questions posed by opposition MPs are to be answered.
