KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC – Three batsmen got half-centuries and Barbados made a strong start against Guyana to the West Indies Men’s Under-19 three-day championship yesterday in St Vincent.
Joshua Morris hit the top score of 59, Joshua Dorne supported with 56, and Nimar Bolden added 50, and the Barbadians declared their first innings on 302 for nine on the first day of their first round match at Park Hill.
West Indies Under-19 pacer Isaiah Thorne was the most successful bowler with three for 77 from 20 overs.
Guyana were two without loss at the close.
The day’s most notable performances came at Arnos Vale, where a destructive spell of five for 31 from 20 overs for Kirt Murray enabled hosts Windward Islands to dismiss reigning champions Leeward Islands for 141 in their first innings.
Tarrique Edward supported with a flattering four for 10 from 7.2 overs, and he returned later to reach 25 not out at the close and prop up the batting of the Windwards, who were 85 for five at the close.
Trinidad & Tobago were 43 for one at the close, and they will be hoping for a first innings lead after they restricted new One-day champions Jamaica to 152 for nine at Sion Hill.
The Jamaican batting was led by Steven Wedderburn with 46, while Jacen Agard and Andrew Rambarran bagged three wickets apiece for T&T.
