Teen ruggers end RAN tourney without scoring a single point

A scene from the Guyana/Cayman Islands ‘fifth place final’ yesterday at the Mona Campus ground in Jamaica. Guyana lost 0-52 in a matchup up of winless teams prior to the first whistle

The national team’s forgettable campaign at the Rugby America’s North (RAN)  Men’s U19 XVs tournament ended yesterday without them scoring a single point at the Mona Campus in Jamaica.

In their fifth and final match yesterday versus the Cayman Islands, the teen ruggers lost by their highest margin, 0-52 after 70 minutes of play.

The Cayman Islands clinched their first and only win in the tournament in the ‘fifth place final’ involving two teams which were winless prior to the first whistle.  In Guyana’s previous encounters, on Thursday they lost without scoring against Trinidad and Tobago in a 0-33 drubbing. That performance was followed up with another loss, (0-37) against the host, who had played unbeaten so far.

In their first Pool B encounter on Wednesday, the local team seeded sixth, lost 0-48 against Bermuda and were also held to a clean sheet versus Jamaica, going down 0-36.

Yesterday’s ‘Gold’ final involved the top seeded USA South and the second seeded Jamaica outfit. USA South won the hard fought match 18-15.
