Relatives of teen fatally beaten at Laing Ave protest for justice

Relatives and friends of murdered Dequan Pyle protesting for justice at Laing Avenue yesterday

One month after 19-year-old Dequan Pyle was killed in the process of making peace when his sister was involved in a fight, relatives have lambasted the police for not making any serious effort to apprehend the suspect and demanded justice in a protest yesterday afternoon at Laing Avenue, Georgetown.

About 30 people protested at Laing Avenue, with relatives and friends of Pyle demanding justice, criticizing the police and accusing them of dragging their feet.

A relative of Pyle told Stabroek News yesterday that they were protesting because they have not received an update from the police since he was killed. She explained that it was sad because he had no part in the incident but rather took his sister inside after she was involved in a fight, and was innocently killed in the process of making peace. The only information that was related to the family was that two suspects were held but later released from police custody after 72 hours.
