Burnt three-year-old flown to US for specialist treatment

Shiv Thompson

Three-year-old Shiv Thompson, who sustained 3rd degree burns to 50% of his body after he fell into a pot of boiling water at his home in Mabaruma, Region One, was yesterday flown by medevac to the United States to receive further medical care.

After the incident Thompson was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital and was later  transferred by medevac to the Georgetown Public Hospital Inc., where he was further treated, but due to the severity of his injuries, he required specialist treatment and care which involved travel to the United States.

The SHEA Foundation, a non-profit organization, which helps to provide children with further medical care if needed accepted Thompson’s case and started a fundraiser to help defray travel and medical costs to enable Thompson to receive the care he needed. Thompson was scheduled to depart Guyana on July 16th but the flight was delayed due to bad weather and the aircraft being grounded at Timehri. The flight with Thompson eventually departed yesterday via Jet Rescue Air Ambulance. The SHEA Foundation expressed their gratitude to everyone who assisted.
