Dear Editor,
Surfing through Google, I discovered that Starlink high speed internet service is coming to Guyana in the near future, or who knows if it’s already here. Its headline reads: Guyana’s High- Speed Internet Revolution: Embracing Starlink’s network. The article is available on https://ts2.space/en/guyanas-high-speed-internet-revolution-embracing-starlinks-network/ and was written in April of this year. This seems exiting and I hope it materializes very soon.
Researching the Starlink internet service, it seems that the cost will be cheaper and is expected to provide customers with 150 Mbps internet speed, a significant improvement on the current amounts some parts of interior is receiving. Editor, the use of modern technology, especially the internet, is pivotal for indigenous advancement and to be on par with the modern world. This tool can assist us, indigenous peoples, to dialogue/work in the postmodern world even as we maintain our traditions and contribute to a sustainable green development of Guyana. This being said, can the government who cares so much for us for our votes, request Starlink to provide high- speed internet service in the interior?
On another note, perhaps introducing high speed internet service by Starlink at a low cost to Indigenous people in Guyana, can be a wise investment for the monies acquired from carbon sales in communities. Additionally, maybe our Toshaos can put this request forward at the upcoming National Toshaos’ Councils meeting next month, to benefit our people. In concluding, Government should make high speed internet service a priority to our people in the interior, especially remote areas. Thus, bring in Starlink internet immediately to Guyana. Those in the ISP monopoly: for example Digicel, E-networks etc., services are better than none but very expensive in the interior.
Sincerely,
Medino Abraham
