The Guyana Police Force (GPF) kept their hopes alive in the KFC Elite League, crushing Milerock of Linden 8-0 on Sunday night at the Guyana Football Federation National Training Centre, Providence.
Needing a win to keep their chances intact heading into their final match against fierce rival the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the lawmen seized the early initiative as they romped to a 3-0 lead at the halftime interval.
Junior Redmond recorded a first half brace in the 13th and 39th minute, whilst Nicholas MacArthur opened his account in the 31st minute. The lopsided nature of the contest would continue in the second stanza, as the Police unit recorded five more conversions.
MacArthur led the way with a brace in the 54th and 76th minute to complete his hat-trick, whilst Redmond sealed his hat-trick via an 80th minute conversion. Pernell Schultz and Dorwin George then completed the score-line following strikes in the 87th and 90th+2 minute.
GPF will now enter their final match of the competition against GDF requiring a win to clinch the championship. On the other hand, the army unit only requires a draw to claim the title.
Meanwhile, Ann’s Grove defeated Victoria Kings 2-1 in an East Coast Demerara derby. Shemar Beckles and Yohance France scored in the 13th and 90th+3 minute respectively. For the loser, Inceford Charles found the back of the net in the 22nd minute. The event continues at the same venue on Saturday.
