(CMC) – West Indies selectors have turned to uncapped off-spinner Kevin Sinclair in the wake of the shambolic first Test defeat, naming the Guyanese in a 13-man squad for the final Test against India bowling off Thursday in Trinidad.
The 23-year-old has replaced left-arm fast bowling all-rounder Raymon Reifer who will still, however, make the trip to Port-of-Spain to provide injury cover for the squad.
Sinclair has taken 54 wickets from 18 first class matches at an average of nearly 24, since making his first class debut in 2020.
He has already featured for West Indies in the white-ball formats, playing seven One-Day Internationals and six Twenty20 Internationals.
During the last first class season, he snared 18 wickets from five matches to help Guyana Harpy Eagles clinch the title.
West Indies are attempting to rebound after suffering an innings and 141-run mauling inside three days in the opening Test at Windsor Park in Dominica.
They watched as veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin conjured up a 12-wicket match haul while their frontline spin duo of Rahkeem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican scraped two wickets between them from 61 overs.
The 32-year-old Reifer, who has played eight Tests, made two and 11, and bowled only four overs, during last week’s defeat, which extended West Indies’ woeful record of having not beaten India in a Test in two decades.
SQUAD – Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Jermaine Blackwood (Vice-Captain), Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Kemar Roach, Kevin Sinclair, Jomel Warrican; Reserves: Tevin Imlach, Akeem Jordan.
