Twenty-three-year-old Stephon Howard, of Lot 250 East La Penitence, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where he was charged with attempted robbery.
Howard pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that on June 29, at Norton Street, Georgetown, the defendant while being in the company of another, and armed with a knife and firearm, attempted to rob Jermaine Simon.
The court prosecutor strongly objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. This was added to the fact that a firearm was also used and the defendant was charged three times for matters of a similar nature.
The Acting Chief Magistrate asked the defendant if he wished to say anything for himself and he responded by saying that the policemen from the Alberttown Police Station beat him in the presence of his girlfriend and that he suffered head injuries.
Bail was refused.
Howard is expected to make his next court appearance on July 26 for statements.
