The miner who died on Monday at 42 Miles backdam, Region One after a tree branch fell on him, has been identified by his uncle as Leroy Sandy, 26, of Port Kaituma, North West District, the police say.
Enquiries have revealed that the man was employed with a dredging operation owned by Diane David, a 33- year-old businesswoman who resides at Falls Top, Region One, and who was establishing a mining operation at 42 Miles backdam. According to an employee, Dwayne Fredericks, at about 0830 hours on Monday, he and his co-worker were clearing the area to set up a camp when a limb from a tree broke off and hit Sandy in his chest.
