LONDON, CMC – Guyana internationals Kadell Daniel and Matt Briggs will ply their trade for Horsham in the Isthmian League Premier Division, after penning contracts with the southeast England club for the upcoming season.
Daniel, a 29-year-old midfielder, was re-signed after initially joining the club in February this year until the end of the season while Briggs, a 32-year-old full back, has joined from Gosport Borough in the Southern League Premier Division South.
The duo are among seven new players signed by Horsham for the new campaign getting underway August 12.
“When Kads (Daniel) first came in, he hadn’t played much in those previous six weeks so he was a bit rusty,” said manager Dom Di Paola.
“But then he got four goals in six starts and he provides something different.
“We had a chat at the end of last season and at one stage it looked like he was going to move on, but it’s another example of a player realising just how much he enjoys playing his football here.
“He’s just had a baby, is relatively local, and I think there’s more to come from him.”
Daniel, who has been capped 13 times by Guyana, said: “I’m feeling very excited for the next season and happy to be back. I enjoyed the last part of the season, I got a good vibe from the club, and yeah, I’m glad to be back.”
Briggs, meanwhile, has played 15 times for Guyana following his debut eight years ago, and brings the experience of having played for the likes of Premier League club Fulham as a teenager.
“Matt is a very different player to what we’ve got. He’s a dynamic defender with a good pedigree who had a half-decent spell at Gosport but wants to be somewhere where he can get nice and settled,” said Di Paola.
“He seems a really nice lad and we’ll see over pre-season what he can add to the group. You never know in football who or what is going to come up but if he plays better than what we’ve got then he’ll play.
“He’s just got to be the best version of himself and that’s how he’ll get his chance.”
Briggs said he believed his vast experience would be an asset to Horsham.
“It’s massive. I’ve played at the highest domestic level, on the international stage, and played at a lot of leagues up and down England,” he said.
“So I think it will only be of benefit so I can help everyone else around me.”
