The combination of Nicholas Verwey and Kirsten Gomes claimed Guyana’s fourth gold medal at the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as they won the Mixed Doubles category.
Verwey/Gomes made light work of the Jamaican duo of Alex Chin and Sanjana Nallapati in straight sets 11-8, 11-7. It was the second medal for both, following Verwey’s gold medal showing in the Boy’s U19 section and the silver medal capture of Gomes in the Girl’s U19 division.
Meanwhile, Guyana also secured two bronze medals, after advancing to the semi-final round in the Boy’s and Girl’s doubles divisions respectively.
The girl’s duo of Avery Arjoon and Safirah Sumner went down 6-11, 8-11 to the Barbadian pair of Sumairaa Suleman and Eboni Atherley in the semi-final section.
Similarly, Michael Alphonso Jr. and Mohryan Baksh suffered defeat at the hands of Jamaicans Tobias Levy and Lukas Thomson in the final four segment.
