The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) has made another cocaine seizure, this time on the East Coast of Demerara.
A CANU release stated that Suresh Persaud, 52, was on Thursday busted with approximately 2.7 pounds of cocaine at his Belmont Squatting Area home, at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
According to the release, the unit’s officers conducted an operation at Persaud’s address where a search of the premises led them to the discovery of several parcels of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine. Persaud was present on the premises when the raid was carried out
He was subsequently arrested and taken to CANU’s headquarters along with the suspected narcotic which tested positive for cocaine. When weighed it amounted to approximately 1.216 kilogrammes (2.7 pounds) with a street value of approximately $1.3 million.
Investigations are ongoing.
