A five-wicket haul from off-spinner, Jonathan Rampersaud followed by a half-century from Shamar Yearwood inspired Guyana to a 55-run lead over Trinidad and Tobago at the end of day two in the Cricket West Indies Regional Under-19 three-day tournament.
With rain forcing no play on the opening day, today saw Trinidad surprisingly declaring on 95 for six from 37 overs before Guyana reached 150 for four at stumps.
Rampersaud picked up his second five-wicket haul of the competition, this time taking 5-16 from 11 overs.
Andrew Rambaran top scored with 28 not out from 84 balls while Kyle Kissoondath made 22 from 33 balls. Justin Jagessar chipped in with 14 and Nick Ramlal made 13 from 50 balls.
When Guyana took to the crease, Rampertab Ramnauth was trapped leg before wicket to Jacen Agard for seven while Aryan Persaud was run out for 12. However, Yearwood joined his captain, Mavindra Dindyal as the pair shared a half-century stand. Yearwood made 52 from 111 balls with his innings highlighted by two sixes and two fours. Dindyal carried on to make 38 from 53 balls. His innings was laced with five boundaries.
Former captain, Alvin Mohabir resisted with 17 from 49 balls while Zynul Ramsammy was on 16 not out from 35 balls.
Meanwhile, Windward Islands were bowled out for 133 as Jamaica’s R Edwards took 6-34. Jamaica then piled on 264 for eight declared after J. Beckford reached 100 not out. His 122-ball innings featured seven sixes and five fours.
In the other match of the round, Barbados were bowled out for 101 in their first innings while closing their second innings on 141 for four against Leeward Islands who made 123 all out in their first innings.
