Three vehicles yesterday morning skidded on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway in the area of Long Creek and ended up in the bush after driving over gravel that covered the roadway.

Two of the vehicles suffered minor damage but no one was injured, according to reports.

The police surmised that the gravel may be the result of the faulty loading of trucks that traverse the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, however, there is currently no evidence to show who or what may have caused the littering of the gravel on the highway.

The acting commander of Region 4 ‘B’, Deputy Superintendent Ravindra Stanley told Stabroek News that based on a video circulating on social media, several trucks could be seen speeding out of the area but there was no evidence or eyewitness to identify the truck’s plate number or to say who the truck belonged to. He explained that persons were mentioning names but there is no evidence to back up those claims. However, he assured that an investigation is ongoing in the matter.

Stanley noted that several trucks would normally traverse the area and opined that it could be that the trucks were transporting improperly packed gravel causing the stone to fall onto the highway.

Although he was unable to say exactly when the incident occurred, he estimates that it started Wednesday evening and lasted until yesterday morning. It was about 5 am yesterday that the last vehicle skidded off the road. The commander informed that two vehicle incurred minor damage and no injuries were reported.

Yesterday, a police inspector along with other ranks visited the scene and members of the Fire Service who arrived later in the morning were seen using a water tender to wash the gravel off the highway.
