Bartica Secondary was crowned the Region #7 champion of the Digicel Schools Football Championship, defeating DC Caesar Fox [formerly Waramadong] 4-0 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Ian Gomes led the rout with a double in the 17th and 50th minute, whilst Reon Hall and Reizer Reid found the back of the net in the fourth and 71st minute respectively.
Both teams will now advance to the round of 32 section of the National Championship which is penciled to commence tomorrow with seven matches, and will continue on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Winner of the tournament will receive $1,000,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth place finishers will pocket $500,000, $300,000, and $200,000 respectively towards a school initiative and the corresponding trophies.
On the individual side, prizes will also be awarded to the Highest Goal Scorer, Best Goalkeeper, and Most Valuable Player. Uniforms will be provided to the quarter-finalists in each section. The event will be played under the motto of a ‘Unite, Develop, Excel’.
