Despite the opening day being washed out, Guyana defeated Trinidad and Tobago by five wickets on day three of their second-round clash in the Cricket West Indies Under-19 three-day tournament.
After Trinidad surprisingly declared on 95 for six in their first innings, Guyana converted their overnight score of 150 for four to 179 all out in 60 overs. Trinidad were then bundled out for 155 in 66.3 overs, setting Guyana 75 to win in which they reached in 13.4 overs but lost five wickets.
Zeynul Ramsammy added seven to his overnight score before being dismissed for 24. Jacen Agard ended with 4-35 while Andrew Rambaran took 2-44.
The Guyanese spinners did not allow Trinidad to get out of control with Jeremy Sandia taking 5-42. He was supported by Jonathan Rampersaud (2-36), Mavindra Dindyal (1-12) and Aryan Persaud (1-28).
Kyle Ramdoo piloted Trinidad’s batting with 52 from 92 balls. He struck two sixes and three fours before being dismissed by Dindyal. Justin Jagessar made 26 and Rambarran returned to make 17. Vasant Singh and Orlando James both made 14 but no other batsman managed double figures.
Yearwood returned to see his side mow down their target and followed up his half-century in the first innings with 40 from 32 balls. Rampertab Ramnauth chipped in with 15 from 20 balls. Nick Ramlal took 3-14 while Singh bagged 2-7.
