The Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) is basking in the facility’s successful completion of breast reconstruction surgery performed recently.

This historic procedure was performed at the hospital on a 54-year-old patient who had conquered breast cancer two decades ago. According to a GPHC release, the surgery was performed by a local team in collaboration with the British Foundation for International Reconstructive Surgery and Training (BFIRST).

The team was led by Dr Shilindra Rajkumar, along with a team from BFIRST, including Drs Maniram Rhagbir and Naveen Cavale who lent their expertise to ensure the surgery’s success. The release noted that the hospital’s ability to undertake such a task is the result of years of research, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to patient care.

“We have achieved a surgical milestone that brings hope to countless individuals who have faced similar challenges. This groundbreaking achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the collective efforts of everyone involved.”

Among the highlights of this groundbreaking achievement is the expected establishment of the Department of Adult Cardiac Surgery, which will give GPH the capacity to perform procedures such as minimally invasive valve surgeries and trans-catheter aortic and mitral valve replacements. The newly constructed wing is equipped with the latest in medical technology, providing surgeons and medical professionals with advanced tools to deliver the patients’ needs.

Another noteworthy aspect of the hospital’s achievement, is the recently completed laparoscopic training for keyhole surgery. The participants underwent rigorous training in laparoscopy techniques, paving the way for even more advanced and less invasive surgeries.
