BVI delegation plugs its financial services, corporate structures

Prime Minister Mark Phillips, who is currently performing the functions of President, met with the Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Lorna Smith, OBE and a high-level trade delegation, this morning at the Office of the Prime Minister on Camp Street.

A release from the PM’s office said that the delegation consisted of Dr Karl Dawson, Junior Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Petrona Davies, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, who briefed the Prime Minister on the various financial services provided by the BVI, the advantages of utilizing BVI corporate structures, and the BVI’s proficiency in facilitating international cross-border business.

The release said that several other topics of mutual interest were explored, such as the BVI’s and Guyana’s shared commitment to regional cooperation, economic development, and agricultural ties between the two countries.

While in Guyana, Deputy Premier Smith and a  16-member delegation are anticipated to engage with key government officials as well as members of Guyanese business sectors to improve bilateral commerce and promote mutual economic advancement.
