Police on mobile patrol in the vicinity of Edinburgh, Berbice discovered 27 lbs of cannabis sativa on Saturday.
According to a police press release, around 05:30 hrs on Saturday, the patrol observed two men walking on a dam with two bulky bags on their shoulders.
They called out to the men, who dropped the bags and ran into a nearby cane field. The police gave chase but the men escaped.
The release said the two bags were checked and found to contain seeds, leaves and stems.
The marijuana was taken to Central Police Station in New Amsterdam, Berbice, where it was weighed and amounted to 27 lbs.
