The fixture between Vengy and Riddim Squad in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Senior Men’s League ended prematurely yesterday following an altercation which resulted in the former leaving the playing area and refusing to continue the match at the National Training Centre, Providence.

The altercation occurred after Johannis Mendonza of Vengy shoved Gordon in the abdomen, which resulted in the latter retaliating by throwing two punches in his opponent’s direction. Both players were immediately ejected from the match by officials in the 74th minute, with Mendonza receiving his second yellow card and Gordon being dealt a red card.

resume the contest resulting in the match being awarded to Riddim Squad following a decision by the GFA executives. At the time of the unfortunate episode, Riddim Squad was ahead 1-0 after Kester Alleyne scored in the 28th minute.

GFA President Otis James during a brief comment said, “Serious actions will be taken against them. The GFA made the decision to grant the game to Riddim Squad because Vengy refused to continue and the match had less than nine minutes remaining.”

In the earlier match, Black Pearl and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) played to a 1-1 stalemate. Peter Smith scored for Black Pearl in the 14th minute whilst R. Sobers equalised for GFC in the 70th minute.

Meanwhile on Saturday at the same venue, league leader and undefeated outfit, Beacons, brushed aside Camptown 3-0. Veteran forward Anthony Abrams bagged a brace in the second and 60th minute whilst Makonnen Thompson added to the score in the 34th minute. Also, Eastveldt defeated Order and Discipline via walkover.
