Archibald bags three gold medals at Trinidad’s National Championships

Some local track stars took their talents to Trinidad and Tobago during the weekend and recorded several victories at the Hasely Crawford stadium where the island’s National Track and Field Championships was staged.

Newly minted CAC Games 100m gold medalist, Emanuel Archibald’s sublime form continued on the track and in the field, as he bagged three gold medals.

The 28-year-old sprinted and leaped to victories in the men’s 100m international, 200m international and the men’s long jump international.

Archibald powered across the line in 10.23s to win the blue riband 100m dash then clocked 20.69s to win the half-lap event. He then showed his versatility and returned to disturb the sand in 7.60m to triumph in the long jump.

According to reports, Archibald’s countryman, Domon Williams finished third in the long jump and captured the silver medal in the triple jump.

USA based, Jasmine Abrams won the female 100m version of the event in 11.51s.

Andrea Foster and Aaliyah Moore also stood atop the podium in their respective 400m, 400mh and 800m international events.

Foster, the national 400m hurdles record holder, crossed the tape in 55.08s to win the 400m and in 1:02.14s in the 400m hurdles, while Moore completed the two-lap race in 2:09.09s.  It was also disclosed that Simeon Adams snared a silver in the men’s 400m in 48.44s to complete Guyana’s medal haul.

The local public will  have a chance to witness the standout athletes competing live from  August 11 when the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) hosts its National Senior and Junior Championships at the National Track and Field Centre.
