Guyana’s premier cyclist Briton John has arrived in Glasgow, Scotland after securing a wild card for the UCI Elite World Championships which rides off today. 

The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), has secured a wild card for the National Elite Champion to represent Guyana at the event. 

The achievement marks the first time a male cyclist from Guyana will compete at such a prestigious international competition, bringing recognition to the country.

UK-based, Claire Fraser-Green represented Guyana at the event in the female category. 

The UCI Cycling World Championships 2023 which  ends August 13, is a unique event which brings together all the main disciplines of the sport. 

A total of 13 world championships are being contested across seven disciplines. The Olympic disciplines of track cycling, road cycling, BMX freestyle and racing and mountain bike are all featured. Several events offer Olympic quotas spots and ranking points for Paris2024

The format will be replicated in the same location every four years, during the year preceding the Olympic Games.
