Star sprinter, Tianna Springer, will aim to clinch her second medal of the Youth Commonwealth Games today in Trinidad when she contests the final of the women’s 200m.
Springer, who struck 400m gold in her pet event Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, will aim to mirror a podium finish in the half lap event.
The 15-year-old snagged the last qualifying spot yesterday after the semis, running 24.39s but anything can happen in a sprint final.
While Springer made it to the final of her event yesterday, Malachi Austin was not as fortunate in the men’s version of the half-lap race.
Despite registering another personal best in 21.99s, his timing was not enough to clinch a berth in the final as he was the ninth fastest in the summary report.
Earlier on the track 800m athletes, Javon Roberts and Attoya Harvey were unable to qualify for their finals despite scintillating runs.
Roberts clocked a personal best 1:55.69s but finished as the ninth fastest qualifier in the hyper competitive two-lap event. Harvey finished in 2:17.47s, three spots off the final eight as the 11th fastest runner yesterday.
All eyes will be on Springer to earn her second medal of the Games and the fourth for Team Guyana. On Tuesday, Austin snatched a silver medal in the men’s 400m while Narissa McPherson copped the bronze in the women’s version.
