The veterinary inspection of all horses entered to compete at the Guyana Cup Day Sunday at Rising Turf Club will commence tomorrow and end on Saturday.
This is according to a statement released by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC) yesterday.
This announcement for veterinary inspection was made compulsory by the committee’s head, Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr.
The release stated that the inspection process will start in Regions Five and Six. All owners who have horses close to the venues are asked to comply with the request to have their horses pass the veterinary inspection.
If the horses fail the inspection they will be informed after the process is completed the same day, the release stated.
The inspection will be conducted by a team of professionals and independent personnel will be present when the inspection is being undertaken.
The inspection will start at RSTC from 10:00hrs. The team will then proceed to Slingerz Stable at 11:00hrs, then to the Jumbo Jet Stable at 11:30hrs.
The inspecting team will then move across the bridge to Region Six (6), and will stop at Jagdeo Racing Stable. Inspection will start there at 14:00hrs The team will then proceed to Port Mourant a half an hour later and proceed to the Kennard Memorial Turf Club to inspect horses from 15:15hrs.
Inspection will conclude tomorrow at Bengal Paddy Drying Floor at 16:30hrs.
Resumption of the inspection process will continue Saturday morning at GLDA compound, Georgetown from 08:00hrs. A report of the inspection will be posted on the One Guyana Chat group site, the release stated.
The JJTRC’s spokesperson Irshad Mohamed commented on the inspection process stating, “This is about transparency and animal welfare, which is an international issue. I am asking horsemen to spread the message, and get their horses inspected.”
He warned that steeds not inspected will not be allowed to compete on race day.
He added, “This is a very big day in Guyana’s horse racing calendar, and the eyes of not only the Caribbean, but the world will be focused on us.”
