Minutes after the Guyana Police Force yesterday issued a wanted bulletin in relation to the murder on Thursday of a bystander in West Ruimveldt, Majesty Anthony Fernandes, contacted journalist Gordon Moseley to refute any allegation of involvement by video conferencing his travel documents to show that he is in the United States of America and has been since June.
Images shared with reporters show Fernandes to have departed Guyana in June. In response to this revelation, the GPF responded by saying that investigations are continuing into the murder of Dexter Horsham, a 43-year-old construction worker of Lot 430 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, which occurred at about 4.50 Thursday afternoon at Hibiscus Street, West Ruimveldt.
The issuing of the wanted bulletin stemmed from the seizure of a vehicle used in the shooting incident in West Ruimveldt. The vehicle is registered in the name of Fernandes. According to the police investigation, the vehicle transported a group of six men to an address in West Ruimveldt, where all were involved in an altercation with the occupant of a house at the said address in West Ruimveldt. The police investigation revealed that Ezekiel Subhan, a 25-year-old private in the Guyana Defence Force, who resides at Lot 426 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was at home with his 23-year-old reputed wife when he heard a knocking on his door. Subhan went to the front door, looked outside and saw a man at the door who told him he was there to ‘evict’ him (Subhan) from the house. The man then claimed that he had bought the house from his (Subhan’s) great-uncle.
Subhan told the man that he was not going anywhere and that he should get the police involved since he did not come with a document of ownership for the property. An argument ensued during which time a black pick-up vehicle bearing registration number GLL 7950 arrived; six identifiable men exited the vehicle. Subhan said the men aggressively came into the yard and rushed to him. By this time a crowd had gathered and a fight broke out between the six men and Subhan, and one of the six who came out of the pickup vehicle and was armed with a handgun, discharged three rounds. Two bystanders in the crowd were struck by bullets – Horsham, a 43-year-old construction worker, was hit to the left side of his back while Corwyne Abraham, a 38-year-old taxi driver of Charlestown, suffered a gunshot wound. The gunman and the other men then jumped back into the pickup vehicle and drove off. The victims were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Horsham was pronounced dead and Abraham is presently receiving medical attention. His condition is listed as stable.
At about 8.30 Thursday night, police combed the Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, where they located motor vehicle GLL 7950, a silver Chevy Silverado Pickup, abandoned in a yard at Lot 2669 Aubrey Barker Road and National Avenue, South Ruimveldt. The occupant of the same address, Delon Bart, a 32-year-old businessman, was contacted. He stated that the owner of the vehicle, Fernandes, did not live at the address. Bart further stated that he left home around 7 am on Wednesday and went to work, and about 8.30 pm, on his return home he saw the police at his residence. He said he did not give Fernandes permission to park his vehicle in the yard, and he did not see him for the day or know of his whereabouts. The vehicle was processed by the police and lodged. Investigations have so far indicated that the vehicle is registered to Fernandes. As such, the Guyana Police Force issued the wanted bulletin for Fernandes for questioning with respect to the persons that used the said vehicle on the day of the murder.
