An 18-year-old was yesterday morning stabbed to death while trying to be a peacemaker.
The dead youth has been identified as Noel Fraser of 101 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
Reports are that Fraser heard a commotion near to the yard in which he lived and on checking to see what might have caused the uproar, saw it was a fight involving individuals he knew.
As such, he ventured over with the intention of acting as a peacemaker and was stabbed. Upon being wounded, Fraser ran into an adjoining yard and later collapsed.
The police were summoned and ranks rushed the injured man to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspects in the incident are still to be located.
Stabroek News visited the scene and spoke to the victim’s father, Ronald Sookoo. He explained that when he came home from work at about 6:30, his son was asleep. He then left to go to the market and upon his return saw a crowd at the entrance to his home. It was then that he was told that his son was dead.
The man said he rushed over to the hospital where he saw his son fighting for his life with a stab wound to the left side of his chest.
“He is man who tried to make peace but I does tell he ‘Boy don’t get into people thing that does not concern you.’ But if I was home, I would have never let my son go out to it whatsoever but I was at the market and when I come home I got the news.”
Sookoo said that he is now left with only one child and hopes that justice will be served swiftly.
